November 10, 2010Welcome to the new site!17 months to the day after I drastically redesigned this website (and gave it the official name of The Hockey Uniform Database), I proudly unveil another brand new design -- and I'm sure you will agree with me that this one is the best ever! I've made several changes to the site. Let me highlight a few of them: • The frames are gone. You can thank the iPad for that. I checked out the site on the iPad. You could have navigated it just fine on it, but it converted the site to behave like it would if it was not frame-based. Pretty soon, with a new HTML standard coming into play, frames will no longer be supported. So I decided to prepare for that day by redesigning the website without frames. I checked out the new design on the iPad, and let me tell you -- it looks fantastic! • Banner ads are also gone. After a while, the banner ads became an eyesore -- and a very non-profitable one at that. Being that they only succeeded in depreciating the overall look of the site, I have discontinued the use of banner ads. Not to mention most people who inquire about advertising on this site want to do so in the form of text links. On select pages, you will see links from sponsors -- be sure to support this website by visiting those sponsors. And if you would like to sponsor this site, click here to learn how. • I wanted to give my site a hockey look, and I think I have finally succeeded. That was almost entirely accomplished by using an awesome tileable background image of a sheet of ice with skate marks on it, created by Patrick Hoesly, the founder of Zooboing Architectural Illustration. I proudly use his design with his permission. • All thumbnail images on the team and season landing pages now display 10% larger than in previous versions. • The list of seasons is in the left margin, and they're grouped by decade. The teams are at the top of the page. • On all previous versions of the site, links to post to the guestbook and to view the guestbook had been separate. Now, they are combined into one. I have tested the site on all the major browsers -- Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera -- and it displays properly on all five. Personally, I think it looks best on Safari. So what do you think of the new design? Send me an e-mail or post to my guestbook. |
