1921-22
• This is the first season that the NHL did not use a split season to determine its postseason participants. The top two teams would square off in a two-game total goals series to determine the NHL champion.
• A new league, the Western Canada Hockey League, is formed, making three leagues that compete for the Stanley Cup.
• The Toronto St. Pats defeat the Ottawa Senators to win the NHL title. The St. Pats go on to beat the PCHA champion Vancouver Millionaires, three games to two, to win the Stanley Cup.
