1931-32
• Financial problems plague the NHL. The Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Quakers suspend operations. The Senators would return a year later; the Quakers never would. The Detroit Falcons go into receivership.
• The American Hockey League, which originally declared itself a major league, is condemned as an outlaw league by president Frank Calder. Eventually, the AHL signed an agreement with the NHL to become its minor league affiliate.
• The Toronto Maple Leafs, playing their home games in brand new Maple Leaf Gardens, swept the New York Rangers to win the Stanley Cup.
