• The NHL adds a center red line to prohibit players from making two-line passes from their own end. The intent was to increase scoring. 62 years later, the two-line pass became legal -- in an effort to increase scoring.

• The Montreal Canadiens swept the Chicago Black Hawks to win the Stanley Cup.
