• The NHL welcomes two new teams to the league -- the Minnesota Wild and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Wild's debut marks the NHL's return to the Twin Cities following a seven-year absence, brought on when the North Stars moved to Dallas.
• After a 22-year NHL career, Ray Bourque goes out a winner, as his Colorado Avalanche defeat the New Jersey Devils in seven games to win the Stanley Cup. It's the team's second Stanley Cup title in six years.
