The Hurricanes become the first team in NHL history to wear six different uniforms in a single season. Along with their home, road, throwback alternate and Reverse Retro which are in regular rotation this season, the Hurricanes wore special uniforms as they beat the Washington Capitals, 4-1, in their Stadium Series matchup on February 18th at Carter-Finley Stadium. They also broke out their Whalers throwback uniform on March 26th as they lost to the Bruins in a shootout, 4-3, in a matchup of the Eastern Conference's top two teams. The Hurricanes also wore patches above the numbers on their right sleeves commemorating their 25th season in North Carolina.
