2016-17
Detroit Red Wings
7th place, Atlantic Division out of playoffs
The Red Wings wore special silver-trimmed uniforms as they took on the Maple Leafs in the Centennial Classic. The game (a 5-4 Maple Leafs overtime win) was played at Toronto's BMO Field on New Year's Day, the outset of the NHL's 100th year. The Red Wings also wore patches in memory of one of the sport's greatest ambassadors, Gordie Howe, who passed away June 10, 2016, at the age of 88. And starting with their home game on February 15th, the Red Wings wore patches on their left shoulders in memory of long-time owner Mike Ilitch, who died five days earlier at the age of 87.
