1953-54
• The All-Star Game reverted back to its original format, with a team of All-Stars taking on the defending Stanley Cup champions.
• On December 9, the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs combined for the most penalty minutes in NHL history. On the heels of a massive brawl that involved just about every player on both teams, the teams amassed 36 penalties, including 15 misconducts, for a whopping 204 penalty minutes. Only eight players from each team were permitted to finish the game, which Toronto won, 3-0.
• The Detroit Red Wings beat the Montreal Canadiens, four games to three, to win the Stanley Cup.
