• NHL president Red Dutton offers to resign because of business concerns, but he is talked out of that decision by the league's board of governors.
• Maurice Richard becomes the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals, accomplishing the feat in a 50-game season. The feat has been accomplished only a handful of times since.
• The Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup, beating the Detroit Red Wings in seven games.
