San Jose Sharks

1991-97
The San Jose Sharks introduce teal to the NHL's color palette in 1991.

1997-98
The Sharks introduce an alternate jersey in the 1997-98 season, featuring a slightly darker shade of teal. Originally, the names were straight and were trimmed in black. They proved to be very hard to see, and they were quickly changed to a single-color, arched format.

1998-2001
The alternate jersey from the previous season becomes the basis of the team's new home jersey, and the alternate becomes the new full-time road jersey.

2001-07
The Sharks introduce a new black alternate jersey.

2007-08
The Sharks redesign their uniforms when the Reebok Edge uniform system is introduced. The new uniforms feature orange trim and a number placed on the upper right chest.

2008-13
The Sharks introduce a new black alternate jersey, devoid of orange (except in the crest).

2013-15
The Sharks simplify their uniforms, saying fewer elements make for a lighter jersey, thus improving on-ice performance.

2015-17
To mark their 25th anniversary, the Sharks replaced their front numbers with an anniversary patch. When the patch was removed the following season, the front numbers did not return.

2017-18, 2021
When the league transitioned to the Adidas Adizero uniform system, the Sharks replaced their shoulder patches with alternate logos introduced a year earlier (but had not been incorporated into any of their jerseys), using different alternate logos for their home and road jerseys.

2018-20, 2021-22
The Sharks introduce a new black "Stealth" alternate uniform, featuring a subtle circuit board pattern between the two teal sleeve stripes.

2022-23
The Sharks' uniforms evolve with ones inspired by their inaugural uniforms, featuring teal pants, teal home helmets and a textured pattern in the middle stripe on the jersey.

2023-present
The Sharks add a new black alternate uniform. This one, dubbed "Cali Fin," features the alternate fin logo as the main crest and an aqua sunrise pattern below the stripes.

Special Event Uniforms

2015 Stadium Series
The Sharks wore special uniforms as they hosted the Kings at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. The Sharks lost, 2-1.

2015-16 25th Anniversary
The Sharks wore their original (albeit darker) teal uniforms three times in the 2015-16 season in celebration of their 25th anniversary.

2020-21 30th Anniversary
The Sharks reprise their Heritage uniform from five seasons earlier -- this time with the Adidas AdiZero treatment -- to mark the team's 30th NHL season.

2021 Reverse Retro
The Sharks introduce a gray version of their 1998-2007 uniforms.

2022-23 Reverse Retro
The Sharks pay tribute to the Bay Area's original NHL franchise, the California Golden Seals, with their Reverse Retro uniform for 2022-23. Even though the Sharks do not recognize the Seals/Barons' statistical history, perhaps they should. The franchise's 1978 merger with the Minnesota North Stars was effectively undone in 1991 when the newly-formed Sharks stocked its roster with half the players from the North Stars organization (mostly from their minor league affiliates).
