Calgary Flames

1980-81
The Flames' first jerseys were essentially a continuation of their Atlanta jerseys, with the obvious crest change.

1981-94
In 1981, the collar on the Flames' red jerseys underwent a very minor change.

1995-98
The Flames underwent their first significant redesign in franchise history in 1995 (actually 1994, but the uniforms did not debut until 1995 due to an owners' lockout). Black is introduced as a new accent color. It would later have a more prominent role in the team's uniforms.

1998-2000
The Flames add a new black alternate jersey in 1998, featuring a new flaming horse crest.

2000-03
The black alternate jersey becomes the basis of the team's new home uniforms.

2003-06
When dark uniforms became home uniforms for the 2003-04 season, the Flames reintroduced red as its primary color. Initially, the names on the red jerseys were black with white trim, but it seems no one could read them. So the colors were reversed.

2006-07
The black jersey is retired.

2007-09
The Flames' uniforms undergo a redesign when the Reebok Edge uniform system is introduced. The jerseys feature the flags of Alberta and Canada.

2009-13, 2016-17
The sock stripes change to a more traditional pattern on the regular home and away uniforms. For the 2009-10 season, the Flames celebrated (albeit prematurely, thanks to the 2004-05 lockout) their 30th season in Calgary by breaking out throwback uniforms in the prior generation's cut. For the 2010-11 season, it became the team's new full-time alternate uniform and is given the Reebok Edge treatment.

2013-16
For three seasons, the Flames replaced their throwbacks with a new uniform as their designated alternates. They kept the throwbacks as one-offs during that time before reinstating them as their alternates.

2017-18
The most notable change when Adidas took over for Reebok as the NHL's jersey manufacturer is that while the letter and number font is the same, it's no longer italicized.

2018-20
The Flames reinstate their retro alternate uniform, this time in the Adidas Adizero system.

2021
With the Flames wearing the white versions of their retro alternates in the previous season's Heritage Classic, they moved to make that and the red retro alternate that they had been wearing for several seasons their new primary uniforms, relegating the busy black-trimmed home uniform to alternate status.

2021-22
The black-trimmed red uniform that had served as the Flames' alternate the previous season is retired; and with it, black is completely removed from the team's color palette.

2022-present
The Flames repurpose their 2021 Reverse Retro uniform as their new alternate uniform, adding a sublimated flame pattern at the end of the sleeves.

2009-10 30th Anniversary
To celebrate the Flames' 30th season in Calgary, the team wore replicas of their original red uniforms five times in the 2009-10 season. It would become their full-fledged alternate home uniform the following season.

2011 Heritage Classic
The Flames wear replicas of the uniforms worn by the Calgary Tigers as they blanked the Canadiens, 4-0, at McMahon Stadium.

2019 Heritage Classic
The Flames wear the white version of their heritage alternate uniform as they took on the Winnipeg Jets in Regina, Saskatchewan. In the matchup of the two former Atlanta-based teams, the Flames lost in overtime, 2-1.

2021 Reverse Retro
The Flames bring back Blasty for their Reverse Retro uniforms. They're identical to the black uniforms they introduced in 1998, with the bottom and the sleeve ends black instead of red.

2022-23 Reverse Retro
The Flames break out a black version of the pedestal uniform that they first introduced in 1995.

2023 Heritage Classic
The Flames' uniform for the 2023 Heritage Classic on Sunday, October 29, in Edmonton is inspired by that worn by the Calgary Stampeders hockey team of the 1950s and 1960s.
