Tampa Bay Lightning

1992-93
The NHL enters the Sunshine State in 1992 with the debut of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who take to the ice in black, blue and silver. Ever wonder about the stripes on the underarm gussets? They're called "victory stripes," and NHL fans found out why in June 2004.

1993-94
The name and number become italicized.

1995-96, 1999-2001
The names and numbers take a different font, and the name is vertically arched.

1996-99
For three seasons, the Lightning wear blue alternate jerseys featuring a sublimated design.

2001-07
With fans complaining that the team's number font is unintelligible, the team changes to a standard block font.

2007-08
The team uses the occasion of the introduction of the Reebok Edge uniform system to redesign its uniforms.

2008-11
The Lightning -- err, BOLTS -- introduce a new blue alternate jersey. Note the TAMPA BAY inside the rear tail stripe.

2011-12
On January 31, 2011, the Lightning held a press conference to introduce their uniforms of the future, beginning with the 2011-12 season. Originally, the uniforms were going to be just blue and white, but by popular demand, the team later added black trim to the numbers and the lightning bolt on the pants (which was not originally part of the redesign). Plus, it announced it was retaining the alternate jersey.

2013-14
A season late, the shoulder logos on the alternate home jersey are finally updated to the team's current primary logo.

2014-17
With the team changing their primary home jerseys to blue in 2011, the Lightning changed their alternate jersey to black, keeping the BOLTS diagonal wordmark.

2017-18, 2022-23
The Lightning remove the wordmark from above the crest on the road jerseys when moving over to the Adidas Adizero jersey system. Otherwise, the design remains intact.

2018-22
The Lightning introduce a new black alternate uniform, with the sleeves, back numbers and socks featuring a pattern inspired by Adidas' Primeknit shoes.

2023-present
The Lightning incorporate elements of their original uniforms, including the victory stripes and the drop-shadow numbers, in their new alternate uniform that they unveiled in February 2024.
