On December 8, 1967, the California Seals (as they were originally called) changed their name to the Oakland Seals. To accomodate the name change, the ends of the "C" on the crest were closed together, turning it into an "O." This was, by no means, the last name change for this franchise. In 1970, Charlie O. Finley bought the team, changed its name to the California Golden Seals, and changed the colors to (what else) kelly green and gold, with white skates.
